1920s Art Deco Stove

s177

This early twentieth century Stove named the "Osaka" was made in France by the DeVille Company and probably dates from around 1920.

Stylistically however it is heralding the arrival of the Art Deco era. The bold geometric shapes in the enamelled cast iron of this stove are softened by delicate, more art nouveau style details in the knobs, handles and hinges on the stove.

It's construction is identical to those that were produced in numbers before the Great War.
The front door of the stove has 22 triangular windows, where we have renewed the mica as original. This is an usually large area of window for a stove of this age, and will give it a glorious appearance when lit.

The warm brown enamelled and "Nickel plate" finish is in fantastic condition for a stove of this age. Similarly the grate inside shows little sign of wear, and should be good for decades with careful use.

This stove would have been a primary source of heat in a room, and in theory you could light it in September and not put it out until march.

The stove is designed primarily to burn Anthracite or coke, but would be fine with modern smokeless fuels enabling it to be used freely in a smoke control zone.

The rate of burning is via a flue damper to the top rear of the stove, and the stove should burn overnight without any problem.

This stove can be moved on small castors. These stoves were even transported between rooms and flues whilst still lit!

The stove enamel is chipped slightly on the front door, where it burns the hottest, and at the edges of the integral cast iron hearth as can be clearly seen on the images shown.

The Flue is oval. We can make a flue adaptor if needed, from oval to round for £65
